Elegant details, graceful flow, unerring proportions and unfolding vistas: all of these characteristics mark this home as one of renowned Philadelphia-native architect Horace Trumbauer’s masterful achievements. Both the house and the gardens required extensive restoration to regain their sense of scale and dignity. Working with noted museum curators, an important collection of art and antiques was assembled from around the world, enriching each of the 32 splendid rooms. Eberlein Design Consultants was the 2016 winner of the Horace Trumbauer Award for Residential Interior Design, which recognizes the work of individuals and firms that preserve and advance classical tradition in the Philadelphia area. Barbara Eberlien is known for her ability to create interiors that are aesthetically sensitive and at the same time responsive and relevent. As one client recently told her, "this isn't restoration, this is art."
- The dining room furniture all dates from the period 1810–1828. The circa-1815 American dining room table, which seats 14, was purchased from Hirschl & Adler, and is surrounded by dining chairs that retain their original horsehair upholstery. The intricately patterned carpet is from India, and dates to the early 20th century. At left, a classical Empire bronze-mounted mahogany pier table displays a three-part set of girondoles, and a classical mahogany settee is placed along the far wall.
- The living room, with its 10-foot ceilings and elaborate moldings, features a Regency clothes press customized to conceal the television.

Hand-painted Chinoiserie wallpaper and drawings by Matisse, (above the fireplace) Picasso and Modigliani grace the bar. At right is a set of African mahogany double doors, a feature found throughout the home. The 17th-century chairs, one of which is shown at left, were bought at auction in England.
