Description
A very fine carved wood and ‘carton pierre’ mirror retaining its original gilding and original mirror plate. This mirror has been dry stripped and retains all its original clay color and much of its original gilding.
John Linnell was among the first of the great 18th century cabinetmakers to incorporate the use of carton pierre, a papier machè type material, that was easily moulded, saving a great deal of time at the carver’s labor in the process.

Message from Seller:
Yew Tree House Antiques was launched in 1991, fueled by a passion for collecting the unexpected. Kevin Kleinbardt and Ahna Petersen, with independent backgrounds in furniture and art history respectively, joined forces to focus on pieces with a “soulfulness of character,” as Ahna likes to say.
