Holger Johansson Chandelier with 24 Smoked Glass Shades, Sweden 1952

Sold Sold
  • Description
These marvellous chandeliers have brass frames with 24 smoked glass shades each. This model was designed by Swedish artist, Holger Johansson and produced by Westal.
The large chandeliers have a brass frame with four hexagram brass poles, with each pole holding a translucent shade. The shades resemble pressed spheres and hang from the poles. Thanks to the arrangement of the brass poles and bulbs, the chandeliers divide the light over four levels in a unique way. When switched on, the light coming from the smoked glass shades brighten the yellow brass beautifully. From below, the chandeliers reveal their geometrical shape resembling a flower.
These lamps have all the characteristics Johansson was famous for: They are elegant and chic while being premium quality. Johansson’s design allows them to be big and shiny, yet they never become tacky. The design used to decorate the ceiling of the Filadelfiakyrkan (“Philadelphia Church”) in Malmö, designed by architects Carl-Axel Stoltz and Birger Linderoth in 1935. The chandelier’s manufacturer, the Swedish company Westal, is a historical company founded in 1947. For more than seven decades, Westal has been producing high-quality and unique lighting.~H.

Note: Two chandeliers available. Price is per item.
