Description
Available today, this sculptural Mid-Century Modern armchair in hardwood and grey fabric by Giuseppe Scapinelli made in the fifties is absolutely gorgeous!
The vintage armchair is made in Pau Marfim hardwood with Ebony finish in light gray fabric. It has curved arms, four toothpick legs. The sculpted back has five wood stripes and the front backseat has a “T” shape design contrasting nicely with the piece legs.
The armchair is showcased in our gallery next to a Sergio Rodrigues credenza and two Pollack chairs and it looks nothing less than spectacular (images).
This effortlessly sleek armchair can blend into almost any type of contemporary, Mid-Century Modern, boho chic, or modern environment. A beautiful piece like this, will add a touch of Mid-Century Modern swagger to any home!
This iconic design has been countlessly photographed appearing in vintage as contemporary publications. Attached images showcasing this timeless beauty.
Giuseppe Scapinelli was born in 1891 in Modena, Italy, but like many of his Italian fellows, he crossed the ocean and immigrated to Brazil where he started a new life. An accomplished painter, ceramist, and sculptor, he began his career as a furniture designer in the early 1950s.
Scapinelli was both a furniture maker and retailer in 1950s-1960s in São Paulo. His futuristic style is easily recognizable because of the curvy lines and soft shapes, inspired by the Italian design of the 1940s, a departure from the mainstream designs of his fellow retailers. His pieces are beautifully crafted in Brazilian traditional wood. He designed and produced many unique pieces for distinctive São Paulo homes. Scapinelli died in 1982.
